          ISM-Central Ohio, Inc. presents:

Sustainability and the Impact on Supply Chain

Presented by Dr. Neil Drobny

Sustainability is an important and growing driver of strategy in nearly all industrial and commercial business sectors around the world.  It is a business issue affecting an organization’s supply chain and sourcing groups in terms of environmental, risk, and waste costs.  As a result there is a growing need to integrate environmentally sound choices into practice that will align with the mission and sustainability goals of corporations and the communities that support those corporations.

Dr. Drobny will describe historical roots and then fast forward to economic, cultural and political factors propelling businesses worldwide to adopt sustainable business practices. He will draw upon examples from global and local companies that include development of Materiality Assessments for Hexion, a global specialty materials company headquartered in Columbus, and several projects for Alcoa related to promoting the supply of aluminum to automobile companies. He will also provide some thoughts about where sustainable principles and practices will take corporate leaders, and society as a whole, in the future.

Neil began an academic career about 14 years ago initially teaching courses in corporate environmental strategy in the MBA program at Ohio State.  Today he teaches courses in sustainable business practices at the Fisher College of Business.  Prior to launching his academic career  Neil served as executive director of two small recycling organizations, founded and served as CEO of a regional environmental consulting firm, and worked at Battelle in Columbus where he contributed to development of one of the first formal environmental impacts assessment tools.

Dr. Drobny received his bachelors and masters degrees from Dartmouth College and his PhD from The Ohio State University, all in environmental engineering.  He is a Certified Sustainability Professional granted by the International Society of Sustainability Professionals, and serves on the Board of Directors of that organization.
